Where Earth & Sky Align

Why NOMDE

The world did not need another wine company. It may have needed a different one.

NOMDE exists to find vineyards worth listening to: growers who farm with care, parcels that give something no other place can, and seasons that leave their mark on the fruit. We make a small amount of wine from each, as naturally as we can, so the place and the year come through in the glass.

NOMDE is not tied to one vineyard or one way of working. Each release comes from wherever we find that alignment next, and the vineyards may change from year to year.

Season, Sky, Soil, Souls

Four forces shape every bottle. We look for the places where all four line up.

Season

No two years ripen alike. Heat, rain, and timing change the fruit, and we let that change show rather than smooth it away.

Sky

Morning fog, afternoon sun, and cold nights set the pace of the ripening. That is why we print the harvest sky on every label.

Soil

The flavor starts in the ground. What the soil holds back decides how hard the vines work, and what they give in return.

Souls

Great wine brings people together: a family who knows the vines, a thoughtful winemaker, and friends who gather each harvest.

Why NOMDE

When earth and sky align, mediocrity has no place at the table.

Great wines happen by choice. We choose small lots, patient winemaking, and the discipline to leave out any barrel that does not measure up, even when it costs us.

We give each wine the time it needs, paying attention to the details and resisting the urge to rush. From vineyard to bottle, these choices shape wines that reflect the season, honor their origins, and earn their place at your table.

Our First Alignment

Moon Dust began on two acres of Bell Summe Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.

Attention to Detail

Moon Dust, 2024

Our inaugural 2024 NOMDE Pinot Noir finds its balance between the traditions of Burgundy and a modern California expression—a wine that rewards patience and reflects its place. Whole clusters bring a touch of the vineyard, with hints of bergamot and dried tea, while restrained new oak allows the fruit to speak for itself.

We want each glass to bring you into the vineyard with us, sharing the experience of tasting barrels as acidity and texture come together in the blend.

Bottle

"Each glass brings you into the vineyard with us, sharing the experience of tasting barrels as acidity and texture come together in the blend".

Like a photograph, this wine captures a moment in the vintage, revealing something different with time, perspective, and the company around your table.

The Moment

The fruit was picked by hand at 1:11 a.m. on August 29, 2024, under a moon 22% full. That moment is recorded on every bottle.

THE CRAFT

How Moon Dust Was Made From the Field notes from our winemaker, John Harley.

“Our goal was to thread the line between true Burgundy and a more modern California Pinot Noir: a wine that rewards patience and honors a sense of place. We added whole clusters to give the wine a taste of the vineyard, with a hint of bergamot and dried tea, and held back on new oak so the fruit could speak for itself. We want the drinker to stand with us in the vineyard, tasting the barrels and feeling acid and texture come together as we blended. Like a photograph, this wine is a snapshot of the vintage, and like any photograph, it changes with perspective and company. We hope this inaugural 2024 NOMDE Pinot Noir captures that

Clone Selection

A single clone, Dijon 115, on 3309 rootstock, grown on two acres of Bell Summe Vineyard in the Russian River Valley.

Time on the Skins

A 48-hour cold soak, natural warming to 80°F, and approx. 14 days of fermentation, totaling about 18 days on the skins.

Picking and Hand Sorting

Handpicked August 29, 2024, at 1:11 a.m. under a 22% moon, then hand-sorted by Charles Dick and Jon and Becca Bell.

Oak

Aged 14 months in French oak, about 18% new, with François Frères and Billon barrels; neutral oak lets the fruit lead.

Whole Cluster

About 10% whole clusters bring vineyard character, with hints of bergamot and dried tea. The remaining fruit is destemmed.

Barrel Selection

We tasted 16 barrels and chose the best blend of 11, including a few press barrels for depth and texture.

ON THE HORIZON

What's Next?

The 2025 vintage rests in barrel now, shaped by a new season and a different harvest sky. Picked at 2:09 a.m. on September 10, under a moon 91% full, it carries a moment distinct from our first release. Its circle will be nearly closed, and its color will not be gold. Those details will become part of the label’s story, connecting each bottle to the place and night where this vintage began.

What comes next will be discovered slowly, deliberately, and without compromise. As the wine develops, we will return to the barrels, following the changes in fruit, acidity, and texture before deciding how the final blend comes together.

next

We have a direction, but the vintage deserves room to surprise us. Each choice will come from tasting, patience, and the same care that guided the harvest.

When the time comes, we’ll share the next chapter of Moon Dust, with its own character and story to tell.
